Sunday Cruising

After several days of cold, damp foggy mornings, we woke sunshine and pale blue skies.  After lunch, with Brock and Leola in the lead,

we again took US 101 north and connected to US 199 (see The Road Not Taken and The Road Now Taken blogs).  Today, we peeled off south east to explore the South Fork Road.

As before, we put on several layers under our coats and headed out.  The Pacific was visible only close to shore,

but people were out enjoying the sunshine.

Also as we had previously done, we shed our layers just after we left the forest and rode between the mountain

and the Smith River.  In this area, the air temperature suddenly heated up in a hurry.

Just after passing the Hiouchi (high oo chee) Visitor's Center,

we turned onto the South Fork Road and rode through the Siskiyou Mountains and the Six Rivers National Forest.

45 miles later--where the road split--we turned around and rode back,

We stopped at the Visitor's Center so that Leola, (who wasn't with us on our previous ride), could peruse the exhibits and stamp her National Parks Passport.  Before we left, we donned all of our layers again.

When traffic allowed, we stopped to take photos,

some close-ups when we could.

Back at the Pacific shore (below Crescent City), people were still out enjoying the shore.

That was fun!
