Stuck Better

Yesterday, with less than 100 miles to our boondocking spot for the evening, an axle support broke allowing the trailer frame to rub the tires.  We heard a small "clunk" then saw smoke coming from the tires.  After pulling into the first wide spot we could find (1/2 mile or so), we discovered that the area had very tenuous cell signal.  After finding a spot to call our roadside service,  Duane was able to complete a call after several drops and call-backs.  After a bit he discovered that roadside service was unable to find anyone to come look at it, and hung up with a list of places to call on his own.  Meantime, a guy who lives on the hill stopped to help.  He managed to get hold of  Rich, a worker at Daniel Steel, a metal fabricating company in Ukiah (on the other side of the hill).  Rich stopped for a look and said that if we could get to the shop, they could fix it.  We spent an uneventful evening where we stopped.

This morning Duane called All In One Towing who sent a guy for a look.  He said he couldn't tow us (the height would require three trucks--two to escort).  He called another guy who came to consult.

They decided that they could prop up the axles enough for us to tow the house Ukiah, about 10 miles away.

With the wheels free,

they helped us out onto the busy road (in spite of CR 20 being curvy and hilly, this road is as busy as an interstate), then one guy left.

The other guy followed us into town, keeping in touch vis walkie-talkie while we backtracked to US101

then 6 miles to Ukiah.

He blocked traffic while we backed into

Daniel Steel and Machine, Inc.

He collected his chains and presented us with the bill to submit to roadside service, bid us a cheery good luck and went on to his next job.

After we were set up several employees, including Rich, arrived for a few hours of work.  They were all very friendly  made us comfortable with 110 electric and an outside drinking water source.   We can sit outside during the heat of the day (mid 90's), but can't run the air and still need the water pump and to conserve waste water tank space.  We can watch tv, and have good cell service and computer wifi.  The best part is that we are off the busy road and in a safe position to be fixed., which won't be until after the weekend.

Comfortable for now,

Louise and Duane
