After talking it over together, Duane and I have decided that starting tomorrow, we will put this blog on hold for the next 6 months while we sit in Tyler, TX doing mundane stuff.  Until then we'll keep in touch via Facebook. 

 Meantime, we'll leave you wandering around our favorite place in the world--Utah's Bryce Canyon.  Enjoy!

Saguaros

 Since we'll be sitting in Tyler, TX for the next 6 months doing mundane stuff, I decided to take the blog traveling back along the roads we've traveled in the past 15 years.

Today we're visiting Arizona saguaros.  

Saguaros (suh waa ro) are a tree-like cactuses that can grow over 50' tall.  They are native to the Arizona Sonoran Desert and certain places in Mexico and California.  The saguaro blossom is the state wildflower of Arizona.  They often live over 150 years.  Their first arms grow after 75-100 years of age, but some grow no arms.  They can absorb and store considerable amounts of rainwater, visibly expanding in the process.  They provide food and habitat for a number of animals.  Humans have used them for food and shelter for thousands of years.

Each cactus is as unique as each human.

Where Else?

I knew I was in the Piney Woods of east Texas when I looked out the window today and saw a dog walking this man.  The guy was wearing a stocking hat, a heavy jacket zipped up, gloves, shorts, and rubber boots up to his knees.  The sun was shining, the temperature was between 55 and 60, and the streets were dry.

Fighting Nasty Weather

The weather in Tyler Texas today was chilly (mid 50's), and rainy.  In other words, officially nasty.  To combat the outside we took a trip inside our travels this summer to a warm, day filled with blue sky reflected in beautiful blue Crater Lake. 

The smiles of friends and all that blue makes us feel warm and happy.

Twice

Thinking about Thanksgiving dinner, I began to wonder where we were on other Thanksgiving Days in our travels.

I discovered that we spent two with our Arizona friends Doug and Jan.  The first was in 2016 at the North Ranch Escapees RV Park. 

Two years later we were dining with them in their house in Congress, AZ, down the street from North Ranch.  This time Doug and Jan had a turkey cook-off.  Jan decided that the only good turkey was the traditional one--stuffed and roasted in the oven.

The four of us enjoyed both!

We hope your holiday was as lively and stimulating as our traditional Thanksgiving dinner with friends John, Jay, Tom, Gabriel, Mark and Melania.

We chatted about a variety of subjects during dinner and dessert, but mostly we laughed away the entire afternoon.

More Projects

 Now that we're sitting I have gotten back to my project--cleaning out and using up old fabric stash and a whole box of denim. To do this I'm making reversible denim/fabric bags for son Jr. to use at his church's next fund-raising event.  

The two I made today are rather small and plain.  The others will all be different as I use up different sized pieces of denim.

I'll be making these until Dec. 7th when we go back to Jr's house when he has his hip replaced.

A Nice Place

Tyler Rose RV Park is our home for the next 6 months.  It has a lot to offer. 

Inside the activities center are 

administrative offices, and the registration desk,

a nice tv/visiting room, and restrooms/showers.

 

Rooms around the outside are used for a 5/5 laundry,

and recreational activities including foosball, air hockey,

pool,

the lending library of books, dvd's, puzzles and games.

Next to the activities center is an events center with an exercise room at one end.

The other public building houses more showers and restrooms, with a dog park behind it.

On the other side is a covered picnic pavilion with a bar/kitchen at one end

and a fireplace at the other,

and a nice pool (closed for the season) on the other side of the fireplace.

In a grassy area beside it are a playground, horseshoes, washers, and a chipping green.

The property has two nice catch and release fishing ponds.

The rv section consists of 117 full-hookup, 50-amp, level concrete sites, on several paved roads.  It is situated between US69

a cemetary.

We decided to stay here this winter because I will be having shoulder surgery in a couple of weeks and we are near to my surgeon and all our doctors whom we will be visiting in the spring.  After my surgery I won't be able to do much for a couple of months, but here I will have a nice safe paved road to walk for exercise. Duane can get busy with carving and leather stamping again, play pickleball with his Tyler group.  We will be able to have social time with our friends in the area, and frequent visits with sons Jeremy and family and Duane Jr and family.

A good fit for us this winter.

Sitting A Spell

On our last travel day for several months, we said goodbye to Trenton, TX 

and made a short 2 hour run southeast to Tyler.  Before we went to our new rv park, we dropped off Eagle at the Tyler HD store for doctoring.  He's been leaking oil and he's in need of a 70,000-mile checkup.

Next we stopped at the local Camping World for trailer safety inspection required by the State of Texas before it will issue a license for it.  Finally we were able to check into Tyler Rose RV Park  

and get set up in our new home for the winter.
