Yawn

A long somewhat dull ride today unrolled as we travelled I 10 southeast and I 20 east from Deming, NM to our night stop in Pecos, TX.  Most of the way we travelled through flat, grassy desert with mountains on the horizon.

In between the long stretches of desert were a few trading posts/tourist stops and two large cities:

Las Cruces, NM

across the Rio Grande

with Mexico on the horizon

and El Paso, TX.

which stretches to the Mexican border also.

We stopped for a couple of stretch breaks, lunch at a rest stop, for traffic in El Paso, and for a border check (everyone who answered yes to "American Citizens?" was waved through).

As we neared closer to Pecos we entered the oil fields which stretch for miles on either side of Pecos.

6 hours and 310 miles later we finally made it to Pecos.

We were sure to make a reservation because the last several times we were here the place was full.  Today we were shocked to find the place was almost totally deserted!

Abilene tomorrow.
