Happy Halloween!

Big Pine camp loop at Tyler Lake State Park is ready for Halloween.

The vintage trailers were out for the weekend.

Time to change clocks!

At Last!

 Blue skies shining on me,

nothing but blue skies do I see!

At least for one day!

Next--Snow?

Let's see....
We went from cloudy and chilly to cloudy, chilly and damp, then cloudy, cold, and damp, and today to cloudy, cold, and soggy.

Hopefully, no nasty, four-letter "s" word!

Even Worse!

Saturday afternoon  (24th)  getting started

Today (27th) all done but the sky

The weather was worse today, but the puzzle got better.

A good way to pass a cold, wet day or three.

Yuck

Four chilly, cloudy days in a row.  Wet air accompanied us on our usual walk around the lake,

which was almost invisible in heavy fog.

The chill and damp grounded our winter snowbirds.

With no sun to warm them, the vultures hunkered down.

After our walk, we hunkered down too.

Lots of rain predicted for tomorrow.

Hello

Stick insects in Texas are rather large, and are very friendly.  This one was waiting for me to open the door to visit.  I invited this one to visit a tree a few feet away.

Bye bye,

What Time Is It?

Jigsaw puzzle time!

This one's a doozy.  It has lights and darks, but very little color change.

This one will take me a while.

Back To The Back

One year ago today we were enjoying the beautiful fall foliage in western Virginia.  Just north of Wyethville is the Back of the Dragon, 32 miles, 260 curves, elevation changes of 1000 feet over three mountain ridges.

Did I mention that the fall foliage was beautiful?

Looking forward to traveling again,

Smokes

One day we started our hike in light fog.

It really was fog, not the smoke from this brush fire.

This fire was next door to the park on private property.  The owner took advantage of the lifting of the burn ban to get rid of a huge pile of brush.

Three more weeks here in the park.

Rare Sight

Many times when we are out doing our rounds, we hear woodpeckers drumming.  The sound echoes so that it is difficult to pinpoint their exact locations.  Today, however, we managed to site this one.

We weren't able to tell what kind it is.  We'll have to ask the resident interpreter.

It was a treat to see it!

Creative Genius?

We are used to seeing hollow logs and stumps on our walks around Tyler Lake State Park.  We walked past this one when we realized that it wasn't a hollow stump after all!

It's really a trash can!

We emptied it and it looked just like a hollow tree stump!

Who knew?!!

Beautiful Day

Perfect fall weather today--warm sun, cool breeze, mostly sunny skies.

Ahhh!

Being stuck here in Tyler, TX by the virus, we find ourselves longing to be on the road again.  The best we can do is to revisit past trips.
While looking for something interesting, I came upon our 2018 trip to the Texas Panhandle.  We stopped at a rest area that turned out to be a local history museum.

Since I am a a cowboy fan and a campfire cook, I found this display very interesting.
The information is all about cooks and cooking for a trail herd.

This biscuit recipe found its way into my recipe book,

but not this one.

Reading this I get a picture of Wishbone, the trail cook on the tv show Rawhide.

Still in TX,
