Once again Duane and I drove the 8 gravel miles Davison Road to Fern Canyon.
Today Brock and Leola, our friends and traveling companions, tagged along with us.
Leaving Brock and Leola to explore at their own pace, Duane and I took off to explore the length of the canyon
which features a beautiful shallow clear stream
meandering through a slot canyon with walls made of ferns.
When we were here before we only had time to peek into the slot. Today we ventured all the way to the end (about 1/2 mile),
crossing a motely assortment of bridges,
and negotiating over, under, around, and through a maze of gravel bars, downed trees, and bushes.
At the canyon's end, we declined the loop trail up the hill and walked back the way we came,
following a couple of other hikers out of the slot. We picked up Brock and Leola and headed back down Davison Road to US 101 for home.
Just for fun we veered off onto the Drury Scenic Parkway to enjoy the old-growth Coastal Redwoods one more time.
