As we completed our drive yesterday by entering Nevada, the temperature had reached its high for the day, and unfortunately the week we're staying here.
To get our of the afternoon heat we cranked up the air in the truck and drove Great Basin for our first visit.
After inquiring at the Visitor's Center about the hike we wanted to take we snaked 4000' up Wheeler Peak which tops out about 10,000' and dropped the temperature 20 degrees. Very nice!
with occasional views of the valley below. I think the heat is making the horizons hazy.
By the time we stopped for a view of the glacier, Duane was very nervous because of the wideness of the truck and the narrowness of the road with only a few inches of gravel berm.
We drove another few miles to view the trail head, but by then Duane was certain that he didn't want to make the drive again. We started carefully down again, until we reached the valley again.
The (approximately) 10 mile trip took about an hour. If we'd been on the bike or in a smaller vehicle, it would have been shorter.
Hiking at 7000' tomorrow.

P.S. Sorry I can't include more pix. We have to use the park wifi and it took 30 minutes just to download these six!
