Five miles from Homolovi State Park is the city of Winslow, AZ,
famous for The Corner. The flatbed Ford had been moved around the corner for street repaving,
and a second bronze statue added on the right, but otherwise nothing had changed since our first visit here in 2010.
(If you don't get the significance, tell Siri to play the Eagles' Takin' It Easy.)
Across from the statues we went souvenir shopping in this store
and the one across the street on the right.
We found a Rt. 66 Coffee mug for Duane with a bike the same color as ours, a tee-shirt for me, and two pins for our tabletop Christmas tree--Rt. 66 and Painted Desert.
The fourth corner tempted us with a soda shop, but we had other places to go.
We walked to the next block to check out the farmer's market. A guy in the gazebo was playing guitar and singing 50's and 60's songs. The half dozen tables yielded nothing we needed, and we decided not to have the lady on the far right give us "readings".
We walked back to the Eagle which flew us directly south of Winslow to where the Clear Creek had been dammed to create Clear Creek Reservoir.
Upstream from the reservoir the City of Winslow created and maintains a recreational area called McHood Park, with a nice parking lot, many picnic pavilions, a play area, restrooms,
and plenty of access to the river.
Back in town we heard the Soda Shoppe calling us in for a visit. We sat at the counter eating excellent hand-dipped ice cream
enjoying the old "soda" counter and the new coffee counter,
and the old tin ceiling.
On the way home we rode north past the state park looking for the turnoff for an overlook of the Little Colorado River basin. We saw colorful buttes
and a few of wanderers from a larger herd of donkeys, but failed to find the turnoff.
Later in the evening we did find the turnoff and enjoyed the sunset light playing across the "Little Painted Desert" just 10 miles from the park.
Sun shining through thin clouds brought out the sage greens.
Done playing tourist.
