Hugging The Rim

When we planned today's site-seeing tour, we had originally planned to take Eagle because CR148 and CR143 wind their ways up, along, and down from the Markagunt Plateau,

and home of Cedar Breaks.

Our goal was Ramparts Point, a 4-mile round trip along the south rim trail.

Duane was a little intimidated by this trail

because the trail was narrow and close to the drop-off edge--not a good combination for anybody uncomfortable on high places with no guard rails.  To make matters worse, the wind was blowing hard today, with gusts 50-70mph, blowing toward the canyon!

The views were similar to Bryce Canyon, but the allure of Cedar Breaks is the combination of the hike with the views.  An added plus is that this park is a bit out of the way for most people, so that there were few people on the trail.

When we reached the end of the trail, I ventured closer to the rim

for this shot.  I had to stay back, though because the wind kept threatening to push me over

Duane had a better idea,

and was rewarded with a better shot.

After a rest and a snack, we retraced our route through the pine and spruce forest

back along the rim top to the truck.

We drove north through the park then snaked east down the plateau.

to the town of Pangwitch for lunch before heading home.

Hoping to ride that route on the bike before we leave,

Louise and Duane
