Saturday Ride

10am on a beautiful, sunny blue sky day saw us on the road for a 120 mile, 6-hour ride.

With Brock and Leola in the lead

and (new friends) Steve and Cathy "tailgunning",

we followed US101 south through the Olympic National Forest turning right onto any paved road that led into the Olympic Mountains in Olympia National Park (blue flags on map above).  We wanted to see where they went and what was interesting along the way.  On each road we turned around where the paved road turned to gravel or to the end, whichever came first.

These curvy, hilly roads were lined with healthy trees--tall and beautiful,

with glimpses of the Olympic peaks.

After a bit the road started following the Hood Canal.

When we were hungry we stopped at a little local cafe (The Tides) for lunch.
Brock and Leola on right, Cathy, Steve and Duane on left.

After chowing down we hopped back on the road for one last detour, WA119.  This was the longest road with more curves sweeping up and down the mountain knees

and ending at Lake Cushman.

Here we found a view that sent the Brock-O-Meter all the way to WOW! HOLY COW!

We couldn't top that.  We turned around and went home.
