For our last day of exploring Grand Teton National Park we opted for a 7 mile moderate hike at the southern end of the park.
The trail followed the south shore of Jenny Lake. We combined it with a 450 climb to Hidden Falls.
That dot in the distance is a ferry boat for people who were willing to find Hidden Falls, but didn't want to walk 3 1/2 miles to see it. The Jenny Lake trail stops at the ferry dock, then returns the same way. At the dock is a short trail going up to the Falls.
The lake trail skirted the southern edge of Jenny Lake, gently rolling through the forest and along the lake, sometimes smooth, sometimes rocky, wide, and narrow.
At the end of the trail a series of steps led up to the Cascade Creek Falls viewing area.
While we waited for our turn to take pictures of the falls, we noticed this cliff face seemed to have people on it. A sign on the fence rail (pic bottom) announced that the cliff was used to teach rock climbing.
A closer look revealed climbers at two levels, midway and near the top.
After admiring the 200" cascade,
we crossed a foot bridge over Cascade Creek belo
and followed the path along the other side. At this overlook we stopped to enjoy the rapids while we rested and had a snack.
The creek continued on down the canyon and emptied into Jenny Lake.
Once down the steps, the trail went past the ferry dock
and rejoined the Jenny Lake trail for the return trip around the lake.
In spite of the number of hikers along this trail, a female elk decided to stroll along it. The hikers behind her didn't see her walking placidly in front of them. We managed a few pictures
she decided she didn't like her position between all of us humans and melted into the trees.
Next, goodbye Grand Tetons, hello Yellowstone.
