Mountain Climbers

Out for an afternoon ride we tried our luck climbing another mountain (see Foiled Again! blog).  Friends Brock and Leola drove their truck from Chimacum (mid-map) south 30 miles on Center Rd. (brown road, middle of map), to where it ended in US 101.  A few miles further we arrived at 2008' Mount Walker, in the green area on the left.

As we entered the Olympic National Forest

the paved road turned to gravel, narrowed to one lane, and started to climb.

We visited both the north viewpoint and the south.

At both we parked then took a short path

through the forest of awesome tall straight trees.

Both viewpoints looked across the Coyle/Toandos Peninsula and the Hood Canal to the distant mountains.

At the north we saw the tip of Mount Constance, 7743' high (closeup below).

The south view showed us Dabob Bay, the end of the peninsula and the Hood Canal beyond.
Just above the hill (front, center) we could just see the top of Mount Rainier (14,410')

looking like a mountain floating in the sky.  That was pretty awesome!

We were all pretty satisfied as we headed back down.  We'd made it to the top and seen Mt. Rainier.

Not bad for a short little trip.
