Critter Romp

Glowering skies didn't deter Eagle and Spyder from carrying us away on a scenic ride along the Umpqua River and across the Coast Ranges

to the Pacific Ocean

and the Oregon Dunes National Recreational Area.

While the critters rested Brock, Leola, Duane and I amused ourselves by watching sand sliders

and dune buggy riders.

I followed Duane up a small dune

and found the tide coming in Winchester Bay.

On top of the big dunes we admired the Umpqua River Lighthouse, still working since it was first built in 1894.

Eagle and Spyder reluctantly allowed us several stops on the way home:

to enjoy lunch and a chat in Reedsport

to view the elk herd

and waterfowl at Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area

and to see where the salmon run up the Umpqua in the fall.

In return we let the critters take us back to Sutherlin, fed them, then put them back in their cages at the rv park.

Exploring the southwest corner of Oregon,

Louise and Duane
