Surprises--Part 1

Despite a 20 mph wind we decided to fly the Eagle on an all day, 200 mile trip.  The first 25 miles south on I27.  Scenery was lacking and the wind made it hard to keep our heads from whipping sideways.

Conditions improved after we turned se on US86.  We rode past miles and miles of brown fields, from freshly plowed to fallow like this cotton field,

then suddenly a field of green would show up.

Sometimes the crops would have cattle grazing in them!  We've never seen that before!

After miles of flat straight roads and endless fields, the road would suddenly curve downward for a mile or two.

Hoodoos would suddenly appear

and sometimes water,

then the road would rise and we were back on flat straight roads again.

Occasionally we would ride through a small town like Quitaque (pronounced Kwitekwa)

We stopped at the first place we found to find food.

We love little hole-in-the-wall places like this.  They seat about 50 people if you pack them in and serve plain but good food.  Inside the place had a few people come and go, but the kitchen was very busy.  Back outside we found a busy drive up window.

After lunch we rolled north out of town on CR 1065 to our turn-around point.

But that's another story.
