Enchanted Circle II

Continuing on our journey of  the Enchanted Circle, we arrived in due time in famous Taos, NM.  We had visited here before when we rode the High Road To Taos from Santa Fe (see Back In The Saddle blog), but only rode around and through with the intention of exploring when we rode the Enchanted Circle.

When we arrived we stopped for gas then continued downtown to find a parking spot and walk around.

After a long, hot, 10 minute crawl of a mile or two, we decided once again that we'd seen enough.

We continued on the Scenic Byway through beautiful Taos Canyon.  Lilacs were blooming everywhere and the air was very fragrant with their wonderful scent.

The canyon took us east and up.

Exiting the canyon we continued along CR 64

To the town of Angel Fire.  In honor of Memorial Day, all of the towns along the Enchanted Circle lined the roads in and out of town with American Flags and bedecked the streets in town with flags also--except for Taos.

In Angle Fire we stopped to pay our respects at the Vietnam Veterans National Monument.

We didn't go inside the chapel, but admired the building and outside seating area.

Across the walk form the chapel is this underground building housing the museum and gift shop.

After paying our respects we continued north along the Circle, completing our circumference of Wheeler Peak

by rolling past Eagle Nest Lake

and turning east in Eagle Nest where we finished the Enchanted Circle ride and retraced our route of this morning.

In Cimmaron (the locals say Cimma rone) we decided that there must be some ice cream in town somewhere.  Just off the main drag we found this little gem.

Inside we received a friendly greeting and were delighted to sit at the old-fashioned counter to enjoy our malteds.  Very satisfying!!!

On the building next door this caught my eye--poster, postcard & pickle co.?   Hmmm.

The mule deer were still browsing in town

and the antelope were still grazing on the grasslands.

A wonderful ride and a wonderful day.
