Little Daisy Mine

Our decision to eat lunch in Jerome, AZ (It’s The Journey blog), was not seamless.  Originally we were going to find a place to park in Jerome, walk around a bit and find a place to eat.  As we progressed through the town, however, we kept missing the few parking spaces available and began to look for a place to turn around.  At the bottom of the mountain, we turned left on this road seeking such a spot.

We stopped next to this equipment for a confab.  While everyone was conferring, I got curious about the place.  Closer inspection revealed that this is a little park

the Audrey Headframe Park.

We all ended up poking around for several minutes.  Inside we found information about a hydroelectric project in the area,

and an equipment display.

The headframe and shaft made up the bulk of the display.

More detailed information about the mine.

This is either an ore car or a miner transport or both.

You stand on the Plexiglas platform to look into the shaft.

I’m not usually afraid of heights, but it creeped me out to stand there looking down into the abyss.

View of the Verde Valley from the little park.  The road continues to the right to a state park.  We turned to the left

and wound our way back to the main road.

Tomorrow is another ride.

What a cute little find. No way would I stand on that Plexiglas platform! The older I get, the more I am afraid of heights.
