Back and Forth

Cloudy skies but no rain made nice weather for our 130 mile bike ride today.  From our rv park in Saxon, WI we again headed west on US 2 through Ashland (see Unexpected Adventure blog).  Today we picked up CR13 going north along the shore of Chequamegon Bay.  Our original plan was to stop in Bayfield and board the ferry for a tour of Madeline Island.  Upon arrival, we discovered that ferry fees were more than we wanted to pay.  We skipped the island tour in favor of continuing our shore tour.

We were able to access the shore directly by visiting the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

Walking the long pier offered views of several of the islands.  We were also able to walk along the shore.

At Cornucopia we turned south and inland on CR C.

We stopped to stretch our legs at the Lost Creek Falls Trail through the Bayfield County Forest.

A 1 1/2 mile hike brought us to the picturesque 8' falls.

Our legs stretched and our hike finished, we continued on C until it rejoined 13 at Washburn.  We were looking for someplace to eat our picnic lunch when we stumbled across this little hidden gem of a lakeside park.  While we ate we enjoyed watching children play in a little swimming area, and just looking at the water.
Back on the road, we rejoined US2 in Ashland and took it back to the rv park.
Still lots to see and do.
