Ride to Lake Placid

Today was ride day. We arrived at the port to catch the ferry at 10 am. The problem was the ferry didn't leave port til 10:50 am. Oh well, we were in no hurry anyway.

All loaded and ready to go

There were lots of boats out on the water. Everything from these canoes to yachts. The crossing took almost a hour. On the way across we chatted with a guy who was going to pick up his Bluebird bus to convert into a rv to hit the road in. The ferry took us across Lake Champlain to New York side of the lake.

After departing the ferry it was a short ride to our first stop at Ausable Chasm.

We were going to hike along the rim but found out that it cost $18.00 per person to access the trail. We chose to view the falls from the few vantage points that were free.

We were able to get some pretty good shots from the bridge that crosses the chasm.

View of Ausable River after the chasm.
Next we headed toward Lake Placid, New York.
We passed through North Pole New York. If you didn't know you can click on any of the pics to enlarge them.

The scenery along the way was some of the prettiest that we have seen on this trip so far. We followed the river for miles viewing one rapids after another. The road was never straight with sweep after sweep. For you none motorcycle riders sweeps are long curves. We past a lot of trout fisherman taking advantage of a beautiful day. It was sunny with the temperature in the mid 70s. We stopped at a small deli for a bite to eat before heading on to Lake Placid.

One of the ice rinks that was used during the Olympic Games that were held here. The Olympics were held in Lake Placid in 1932 and again in 1980

This is the entrance to the Olympic ice skating venue. We didn't go in to any of the Olympic buildings but drove by a bunch of them.

The traffic in town was really heavy. This is tourist time up here. Louise spotted a Harley store so we had to stop in. I didn't see anything I couldn't live without. There were a lot people walking the streets visiting all the stores. Louise and I are not the tourist trap store kind of people so after the quick stop at the Harley store we were off again.

A quick glance at Lake Placid

Leaving town we headed for Plattsburgh, New York. We took rte 3 for about 45 miles winding our way through the Adirondacks. We stopped at a Harley store in Plattsburgh. Again I came away empty handed.

Our next stop was the ferry to take us back to Vermont . The first ferry we took out of Burlington took most of a hour to cross. This ferry only took about 20 minutes to make the crossing. It actually lets you off on an island that has a bridge to the mainland .

We saw to turtle crossing signs along the way. We past a lot of Moose crossing sign but didn't a shot good enough to post.

We arrived back at the trailer a little after 7 pm. We had a great ride and saw a lot of really pretty scenery today.
Tomorrow we have to take the trailer in to get new tires put on it. I discovered a couple of big blisters on two of the tires. If two are bad all are bad. I am really glad I noticed the problem before we left for Maine.  Repairs are part of the ups and downs of living on the road. We hope for more ups and less downs.  We will return to the Elks club after getting the tires and remain here till Monday. We have two more visits planned with our niece and her family before we leave.

Til next time

Glad to hear you found tires. What did you decide to go with? Good Luck!

$18.00 to hike...that is highway robbery! You got a great shot in spite of their greed.

Good luck with the new tires. Be there; done that.
