Plain Ole Michigan

Light traffic made for a very short wait at the toll bridge where we paid our $8

said goodbye to Michigan's Upper Peninsula and crossed the Straits of Mackinac on the "Mighty Mac", the 4 mile bridge linking upper and lower Michigan with Lake Huron on the east (left) and Lake Michigan on the west.

After crossing the bridge we left I75 for US31 for our southward trip along the western shore of Lake Michigan, sometimes close to the lake,

sometimes a bit inland through forests, past farms

and orchards.

At the southern end of Grand Traverse Bay we turned south on MI 37

for the rest of our trip south.  Just south of Traverse City we pulled into the Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds, our home for the next week.

The campground is located at the far end of the fairgrounds, quiet and safe.  We ended up parking just behind the tree at the left.

We were joined by our traveling friends Brock and Leola.  Before my surgery in April preempted our travel plans, Brock, Leola, Duane and I were supposed to spend the summer exploring the Pacific coast from northern California to Vancouver Island, then east across the top of the US.  Instead we are traveling together for the next two weeks.  Native Michiganders, Brock and Leola will be leading our exploration of western Michigan along the eastern Lake Michigan shore from Traverse City to Kalamazoo.

Tomorrow, Eagle and Spyder travel together again.
