Business As Usual

Luckily for us, when this huge pine tree broke, it fell along the trail instead of on it.

At first we couldn't imagine why it broke,

but a look at the opposite side of the trunk showed the problem.  The core was rotted long ago, and the last controlled burn further weakened the bottom of the tree.  A good gust of wind was all it took to complete the destruction.

After sawing off the a couple of small broken ends that were poking into the trail and sweeping most of the debris from the trail, we were satisfied that it was once again safe for hikers.

All in a day's work for us.
