Across the Chesapeake Bridge to visit Larry and Mary Wood

This past Sunday, we headed across the Bay bridge to visit my long time friends Larry and Mary Wood. Larry is the man that taught me the blacksmith trade. I spent a lot of time at his forge and he would come to mine any time I needed help, and that was often. Larry is one of the founders of Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil, the Troy, Ohio base blacksmithing club. He is responsible for the resurgence of smithing in the Ohio area.
Larry's house is about 25 miles straight across the bay from the park we are staying in. The problem is it's across the bay. We had to drive south to get to the bridge that crosses the bay then drive north to Larry's house, 130 miles one way. The bridge is about 5 miles long and consist of bridges and tunnels. Instead of really high bridges or draw bridges, they tunneled under the water so the boats could cross. You drive along on the bridge then dive down into a tunnel way under the water, weird but pretty cool.

This tunnel is downtown Norfolk

At the start of the Bay Bridge you can see Navy ships in the harbor.

This is the first of two tunnels. There are two bridges with two lanes each. The bridges come together at the tunnels to create a two way road.

Once across the bay we headed back north for about 40 miles

This is a picture of the back of Larry's house, it is HUGE. Larry said it is a little over 4000 square feet. Larry prepared a great lunch for us, then gave us the grand tour of the house.  They collect antiques and the house  looks like a museum when you walk through .

The pier in the back yard.

On the way back, there was a gull on every street light. I put my face shield down just in case one of them had to, you know. I didn't want to get hit in the face.

Not sure who plays in this stadium but it looks really cool.

On the way home Louise was busy taking pictures of the sunset.

We had a great time visiting with Larry and Mary and were real glad that I remembered that they now lived in the area. They were very gracious host and are good friends.
Till next time

Isn't that tunnel/bridge something! Is it scary to ride through a tunnel on a motorcycle? Bet it's pretty cool!

Pretty sunsets.
