Back On Track
Today was Duane's turn to visit a doctor, this time for his eyes. His right eye was dilated then a yttrium aluminum garnet or YAG laser performed a posterior capsulotomy. During cataract surgery, an intraocular implant replaces the cloudy lens. The fine skin or posterior capsule of the lens is left in place to support the implant. In Duane's case (as in about 50 percent of cases), a normal process of cell regeneration may turn the capsule cloudy. The cloudy capsule interferes with good vision in a way similar to a cloudy cataract. The YAG laser uses short burst of light to create an opening in the capsule and clear a path for light to enter the eye. This process took about 5 minutes. I drove home because Duane's eye was dilated, but 3 hours later he was playing pickleball.
Amazing!
