Three Good Things

After 48 hours of constant precipitation, east Texas is definitely not close to any drought any more.  This ditch is about three feet deep, usually with just a few inches of water in the bottom.

This blue bird cheered us up considerably.

I had a good time ignoring the rain by putting together a cheerful puzzle and listening to Christmas music.

We finished the old year by doing chores (laundry and groceries) before holing up doing fun stuff (including an extra piece of chocolate or two) and keeping warm and dry at home.

Happy New Year!

Quandry

The sun was warm.  The breeze was cool.  I said to myself you'd be a fool to sit inside and waste this beautiful weather.

But why should I sit outside I said when I'm more comfy inside instead?  I'll open doors and windows.  That's enough of a bother.

That's not enough, I replied with distain.  To exercise is really the main excuse to rouse yourself and get into a lather.

Oh pooh, I said.  I'll get the trash and walk to the dumpster then make a dash around the rv park.  That's enough of a dither.

I argued, to enjoy the beautiful blue sky with white puffy clouds floating by, you'll need to walk a while.  You'll feel as light as a feather!

I opened the windows and took a walk to make myself stop that silly talk.  I walked a mile then walked back home another.

Now I'm back in my chair and feeling good.  I'm glad that I finally understood how to shut myself up so I could do what I'd really rather!

Hope you enjoyed your day too,

The Many Faces Of Luke

At first glance our 12-year-old grandson Luke seems just like any normal preteen boy.

His normal wardrobe consists of shorts and a long sleeved shirt in winter, except on holidays when pajama bottoms will suffice.  A hat is essential to complete the look.

However, there is far more to Luke than his outward appearance.  Luke is a man of many talents!

He is a high fashion designer.  He he demonstrates that discarded plastic wrapping can be used as a fashionable wrap,

or, with armholes added, a beautiful new shirt or elongated into a tunic.

When he's not championing haute couture, he's designing bicycle courses.
Here he demonstrates his latest jump ramp.

When circumstances warrant it, he morphs into the mysterious Shadow Man, a descendant of the original Shadow.

Even with his busy life, Luke is ever ready to don his uniform and gear up for paintball battles.
He looks good in his uniform, doesn't he!

That's Luke.

Interesting Gifts

Duane received this masterpiece from Allie.  He didn't want to open it.  He was sad to have to destroy the art, but glad to receive the dvd that made the seat--Kung Fu The Legend Continues.

Some time last year my entire Harry Potter collection disappeared.  I was truly happy to receive them in a little Hogwarts trunk.

Jeremy wore the Elf socks in addition to his Buc-ees shirt and sweater.  IT will have to wait.

A tall Christmas tree bag held a sign renaming the Fishin' Shak.

The same kind of bag held this Adirondack chair.

Jeremy's ready to explore the bottom of his swimming pool.

(Granddaughter) Allie and her cousin Kinley make a nicely wrapped pair of bookends.

Who's in the discarded chair bag?

Goofing off tomorrow.

Eat, Play, Repeat

Since we are not often in Texas in the winter, we rejoined the party at son Jeremy's house today.

By the time we arrived Jeremy had started making pico de gallo (for lunch) in the middle of the breakfast feast of mimosas and cinnamon rolls. (Maybe he needs to make that island a tad bigger.)

Last night we opened white elephant gifts.  Today we exchanged personal gifts.

All that exertion made us hungry again--just in time for tamales and pico de gallo for lunch.
Jeremy's (step) sister Sherra and her husband Rob enjoyed a quiet corner

while more serious eaters didn't mess around with niceties.

Working off lunch with paintball battles in the beautiful sunny 66 degree day.

We headed home after lunch for a quiet evening opening more presents--

I schooled my children well in the art of deceptive wrapping.  the large box contained a restaurant gift card.

Four days of Christmas aught to hold us a while!

3 Times?

This morning Duane and I Zoomed into Christmas.  After spending the night with our son Duane Jr and family,

we Zoomed with the family grounded in Ohio by Covid 19.

After all the gifts were opened and appreciated,  Brandey  went to work on lunch in the kitchen while Sr and Jr battled it out with Nerf guns.

After lunch of chicken and Brandey's homemade dumplings, we said goodbye to Jr and family

drove 2 hours and 30 minutes to spend the afternoon with son Jeremy and family.

While Jeremy and Jennifer made prime rib dinner, everyone wandered around visiting and playing games.

After stuffing face everyone gathered around for a lively game of White Elephant Gift Exchange.

Soon after that we left for home.  When we arrived we contacted daughter Stacy and partner Ruth Ann in Ohio again and opened the gifts we received from them, since we forgot to take them with us to Jr's house.

Christmas well celebrated!

Ready!

With the quilt delivered I have room for the tree and the manger scene.  Of course the baby isn't born yet,

and the three Wise Guys with their camel are on their way from the East.

Tomorrow we go to Jr's house.
