With too nice of weather and too many scenic roads to ride, we let the Eagle out of its cage and flew the day away. In the morning we rode to Wentzville to map out our route for Monday morning. In the afternoon we took SR 79 north. There are no spectacular hills or curves, or utterly beautiful scenery, but all in all the road is pretty nice just to ride along enjoying being out on the bike.
We passed through a few small towns,
past some farms,
and country properties.
SR 79 parallels the railroad and the Mississippi which is about 5 miles away behind that tree line. (This is often the case, as I’ve stated before. People enter a new area by water first, then bring in equipment to build the railroad, which brings in more people and equipment to build roads.)
We took one of the access roads to view the river,
and were rewarded with a nice view of this bald eagle.
At Clarksville, the three roads merged.
This is also the location of a dam and Lock 25.
We stopped here for a stretch and to watch a tug push a barge through the lock.
At this point my camera battery died. We continued north to road D, with much the same scenery, then rode south on MO61 back home.
Tomorrow, Sunday dinner with more family.
Louise and Duane
