Another Story

On Wednesday (see Shots Fired! blog) Jeremy drove us to the river to view his progress on his Fishin’ Shack.  We were impressed to see that three sides have the siding up, and had started clearing the land to the left for his new pond.

Creepy guy lurking where double doors will be.  This is the back (landward) side.  The front faces the Sabine river.  The next view will be where the doorway opens on the lower right.

Under the ladder will be a double door. Where Luke is sitting will be a poured concrete floored porch.  To Luke’s right is the river, to his left will be the walk-through door.  The stairway will be along this side.  The river tends to flood here about once a year, and had covered that concrete apron, but hasn’t gone over the step yet.

Gramps’s new knees got him up the ladder nicely.  This will be the main room, a combination kitchen, dining area, living room.

Jeremy’s explaining that 4 bunk beds will go here, facing front and back with sliding doors  provide privacy—like bed in a train car.  The far corner will be the master bedroom, the bathroom behind Jeremy on the right.

Allie, our resident monkey the last time were here, (see Old Diner, April 20th blog) declined to accompany us on this trip, but Luke filled the spot with no trouble.

To the left of the shack, there runs a little spring-fed creek that empties into the Sabine.  Jeremy plans to dam this to provide a small pond to raise bait fish for river fishing.  First he has to clear the pines that died before the oil company (which maintains mineral rights here) contained their salt water leak.

The creek runs left to right just beyond that dirt ridge.

At that end it turns left,

swirls around this pool and empties to the right,

turns to the left here and meander on to the river, not far in the distance.  Here, where that bar spans the creek between the trees, is where the dam will be.  All of that land to the left will be under water.
