Tomorrow our new data cycle restarts and I will be able to publish pictures again. Until then words will have to do. Today was hiking day. This morning we went north to view the 90' Superior Falls on the Montreal River, just above where the river empties into Lake Superior just across the border in Michigan, and just past Saxon Harbor (see Half The Plan blog). With no signs pointing the way we were unsure just where to go. First we walked down a very steep hill to the lake's edge and walked along the shore. We couldn't see the entire falls. We did a little rockhounding, then back up we went. After a little searching we found a path that led to a pretty good view of the entire falls.
From there we drove south on CR 169 back to Potato River Falls (see Half The Plan blog). Two paths led to the lower falls and the upper falls. We went to the lower falls first. This involved going downhill on a dirt path where the hill was less steep and down several flights of (200 total) steps to get a good view of the falls. Back up we went (feel the burn!!!) then down another 130 steps to view the upper falls. We were breathing hard and shaky legged by the time we reached the top, but were glad for the exercise and enjoyed the beautiful Michigan summer woodland.
We have one more day to explore this area. We'll do it on the bike.
