Had To Do It

With sun shining overhead, we had to take one last bike ride around the Wisconsin Dells countryside.
As we left the town and the high dollar resorts, our ride along state routes and county roads first took us north along the east side of the Wisconsin River.  On the right side of the road were open meadows,

corn fields,

and manicured lawns.

On the left we caught glimpses of Castle Rock Lake

between lakeside campgrounds,

motels, and rustic fishing resorts.

The rest of our trip took us through stands of forests.

We crossed the river at the north end of Castle Rock Lake, just below the dam that held back Lake Petenwell, then continued south with Castle Rock Lake still on our left, but not within view of the road.  There were less vacation spots there and more lakefront property for sale on the west side of the lake.

Along the way we sighted half a dozen wild turkeys crossing the road.

It was amazing how quickly they disappeared into the brush.  Their blue heads blended in with the blue flowers (flowers in front, head between tree trunks),

and their dark bodies were easily hidden behind woody stems.  One turkey is on the left, one in the middle.

Back in the Dells, we made a couple of stops, one here at the local Denny's (not the national chain) for their famous freshly baked cinnamon rolls.

Packing tonight, moving early tomorrow.
