Step 3 + Goofs

Step 2

Today the repair guy checked the cap (front of the trailer) for cracks (none), smoothed out the wrinkles in the existing covering, and removed all the caulking 

The next stage was to put sealant around the edges and around all of the stuff attached to the roof.

The last stage for the day was to put a different sealant over the whole roof except for the new wood. 

Two more days without air conditioning.

Step One

Time to get our roof redone.  First step is to thoroughly clean the existing surface.

The roof is really white now, but still retained the black streaks.

A couple of years ago we had a major leak around this fan.  Duane dried it out as much as possible, put a bunch of caulk around it and hoped for the best.  

Unfortunately, it wasn't dry enough and had a major case of mold rot.

Fixing this damage took the rest of the day.

Cutting the hole for the fan is a job for tomorrow.

Total Stupidity

When I attempted to transfer photos from my camera card to the external hard drive, I had a brain fart.  Instead of tagging and dragging a photo, I hit delete!  Not to worry, I said.  I simply went to the trash can and restored the file.  Easy peasy!  Unfortunately, neither Duane nor I can find where the file is restored.  Usually it is restored to the file from which it is deleted, but apparently it cannot restore to a card and is hidden in computer limbo somewhere.

Since I can't find the day's pictures, I can't show the fun we had teaching the grandkids to play pickleball,  celebrating Maddy's birthday with dinner at Outback Steakhouse, or topping off the day with Young's Dairy ice cream at home.

Tomorrow's another day.

The Name Of The Game

With no soccer tournaments this weekend, the family was happy to enjoy a Saturday just goofing off.  

The fun started with Simon (kicking the ball) helping his soccer team end the game in a tie,

followed by brunch and a few games of croquet.

We filled in a couple of hours at Young's Dairy Farm with a round of mini golf,

and stuffing face with Young's homemade ice cream.

 Watching Ohio State trounce Indiana offered a nice rest 

then Gramps took the boys out for a game of pass/catch and a few more croquet games.

The last game of the day was a lengthy card game called Hand and Foot, which required a bit of concentration and some serious snacks.  The girls won, of course!

Pickleball tomorrow.

Game On!

Game time with the family today.

First were several games of croquet,

followed by some football passes,

(with dad) Benji goofing off wearing the boys' helmet)

and ending up with a game of Hollywood Rummy (a variation of Shanghai Rummy).

Fall Colors

4 hours driving 2020 miles on two state highways and two interstate highways took us south and west today from our friends in Mogadore OH to our daughter's in the Dayton area.

Here and there we were treated to glimpses of Ohio fall colors.

We arrived in good time, set up, and waited for the family to arrive.  This evening daughter Rachel had another obligation, but we joined granddaughter Maddy and grandson Simon (not pictured)

to watch grandson Judah's team in blue play soccer.

In spite of the team's best efforts,

they lost the game.  O well.

For our last day of fun today, Cindy drove me around to area quilt shops in search of a certain color of fabric I need for my latest project.  We scored a success, then met Mike and Duane for lunch.

Making jam was our afternoon project.  We made sour cherry/cranberry jelly, then a batch of Ohio black raspberry jam. 

Out of projects and out of time, we had to say goodbye to Mike and Cindy and head home.

Moving day tomorrow.

Positive Proof

Our daughter Stacy has been trying to get us into kayaks for years, but my friend Cindy finally persuaded us to take our first ride.

Time for a water break

Exploring lily pads looking for blooms, we were doomed to disappointment.  The blooms had gone, leaving only seedpods that look just like shower heads, but we learned how to back out of the lily pads.

but Duane and Cindy got 'er done.

Where The Heck Is Mogadore?

A short hop of  85 miles south east of Jefferson, OH brought us to the small town of Mogadore.  We are here for a three day visit with my long-time friend Cindy and her husband Mike.  Our visits consist of yakking and eating--what we old people do best!

I like Cindy because she's one of two women I know who make me feel tall.
