I 10 was our only route today, 4 hours and 175 miles from Benson, AZ to Deming, NM. The route went through desert and mountains.
Not far from Benson we encountered one of our favorite places--Texas Canyon.
We just drive along and suddenly there it is
a mile or so giant boulders
piled up on both sides of the highway.
Just as suddenly, they're gone. The road is once again running straight and flat toward distant mountains.
As we drove along the mountain ranges came closer, then receded.
The desert plants changed constantly. Sometimes it was covered in grass and trees,
sometimes only creosote and yucca.
After we entered New Mexico
most of the grass disappeared revealing vast patches of white sand,
which changed again to caliche and yucca.
Our home for the weekend is Dream Catcher RV Park, an Escapees park where we have work camped several times. We will be catching up with a few friends and taking a motorcycle ride through the Mimbres Mountains north of Deming.
Travel, groceries, laundry--a busy day!
Louise and Duane
