Beautiful weather showed up again today and we decided to play UP tourist one more time.
View of the Mighty Mac from a viewpoint just west of St. Ignace.
On Monday we will cross this 4 mile bridge to lower Michigan.
We spotted an orange thingy bobbing in the water.
It was attached to a guy who swam over from the mainland.
We also saw the first of dozens of antique cars coming into town.
Lunch at BC Pizza
Order at the counter and find a seat.
Three museums beckoned.
This was the location of St. Ignace Mission. The museum was very nicely done.
It was easy to learn about the Ojibwa (Chippewa) and Huron cultures and how they interacted with Europeans then
and later.
Across the street was Indian Village Souvenirs, a leftover from the 1950's I think. It was chock full of American Indian and other truck stop kitsch imported from China, but offered a free museum. It was tucked back in a small corner, just two walls of a few artifacts and a large diorama of Fort De Buade, built just down the shoreline of St. Ignace in 1689.
(The red thingy is glare).
Down the street we found this museum where I hoped to find more about the fort.
Unfortunately it turned out to be more about local history. The information I found I had already learned at the Ojibwa Museum.
Last stop was to find some of the famous Lake Michigan whitefish. We bought fresh fillets, and smoked pieces.
Back home we sampled the smoked fish. The flesh on the outside was bony and salty/smoky. The inside was very tasty. The fresh fish will be lunch tomorrow.
Tomorrow we get ready to move.
