Eagle was feeling feisty in today's beautiful weather and decided to take us on a flight out of the country. Across the International Bridge we went with a good view of the St. Mary's River rapids, the reason for the Sault Ste. Marie locks on the right, and the Tower of History in the town of Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
Exiting the bridge after paying our $4 toll and showing our passports,
we followed CA17, the Trans-Canada Highway as it wound its way through the city of Sault Ste. Marie Canada.
We saw the usual city stores, including all of the US fast food franchises, TSC, and Walmart.
We did see a few signs that told us we were not in the US:
center spelled centre
kilometers
and signs in French,
and the Canadian Maple Leaf.
Once out of the city the road became more interesting with curves, hills, and beautiful scenery.
We completed our tour of the Lake Superior lakeshore along Batchawana Bay.
Our turnaround point of our 150 round trip flight was the midpoint of the highway at
Chippewa Falls. We viewed the falls from the bridge
and up close--upper
and lower,
and ate lunch in the little picnic area before backtracking our way home.
One stop to explore the Duty Free store with its triple flags
and to once again pay our toll fee--$6 this time--and show our passports, and we were back in the USA.
Rain predicted tomorrow.
Louise and Duane
