Our last day at Sault Ste. Marie started out cloudy but quickly turned bright and sunny which made our 120+ bike ride much more enjoyable.
The route was simple--straight south on CR 29
to the north shore of Lake Huron
then east on CR 134 to the St. Mary's River again. $7 bought ferry passage
to Drummond Island. We rode off to see what there was to see.
It soon became apparent that there wasn't much there. On this sign most places listed are resorts and outfitters with a few restaurants and other business thrown in.
Duane wanted to stop at Esther's (he doesn't like Mexican food) because Esther was his mother's name. We enjoyed queso and chips and sodas while we studied a map and read some of the signs covering the walls.
This was the most interesting sign to me.*
Since the map showed only a few paved roads, we decided to ride them all. The scenery was beautiful no matter where we rode.
After a couple of hours we rode back across the river with a view of Michigan on the left and Drummond Island on the right.
From 134 we took CR 48 which connected to 129 for the rest of the trip.
Moving day tomorrow.
Louise and Duane
