In driving around Alpine, TX in the Big Bend Country we discovered this small gem of a museum on the Sul Ross State University campus.
It was here that I finally discovered for whom the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive in Big Bend National Park was named.
“The Big Bend” area encompasses all the area between I 10 and the 118 miles of the Rio Grande River where it bends south then north, including the town of Alpine. The Museum of The Big Bend chronicles the history of the area from prehistoric times through the coming of humans.
Increasing improvements in transportation hastened the development of the area.
The Green Cafe was an Alpine establishment known for the racial/social equality of all of its patrons. It was also the birthplace of Tex/Mex cuisine.
We very much enjoyed our Sunday afternoon visit to this nice little museum.
Up next—moving day.
