Under a pale sun the Eagle flew south on US118 toward cloud shrouded distant mountains.
The wind was cold so we hunkered down and tried to keep from freezing. We streamed past tall mountain peaks
flat topped mesas and constantly changing desert scenery.
The roads, from straight and flat to rolling and curvy, were all fun to ride.
100 miles later we reached the west entrance to Big Bend.
A brief history of the years it took Big Bend to reach National Park status.
Here, at the foot of the Chisos Mountains were some signs of spring.
Sotol overlook showed us our first look of our destination—Santa Elena Canyon.
If you enlarge this pic, you can just make it out slightly left of Kit Mountain.
To get there we had to get off the mountain. We had a fun ride going down, completely around, and switching back on the far side to the valley below.
Next stop—Castolon.
