Under partly cloudy skies and cool temps we took I10 east past the big roadrunner
across the Rio Grande,
through Las Cruces,
past miles of dairy cows
to Texas.
We continued on I10 through dusty El Paso
to Van Horn where we fueled up and turned s e on US 90. We drove about 1/2 mile and stopped for lunch. Guess who was lurking at that very spot? How did he know we were going to stop there?!!
US90 ran flat and pretty much straight past cotton fields,
and miles of grasslands.
A couple dozen hawks kept watch on everything,
including 10 miles of bumpy road under reconstruction.
On through Marfa (where the movie Giant was filmed)
and past the viewing stand for the famous (and unexplained) Marfa lights.
I thought this mountain looked like an extinct volcano.
At Alpine we turned south on SR118. The road wound back north right along the foot of that mountain above, around to the other side and up to
LaVista RV Park. We parked next to that rig on the right.
This park is tiny compared to Dream Catcher, but that’s a story for tomorrow.
