During our trip from Trenton, TX to Amarillo, we enjoyed a stretch at this rest stop, and took time to read the two signs below.
The outer protective layer was peeling, but the signs were still very readable (just zoom in). This one talks about the history of the area where the rest stop is situated.
This one explains the concept design.
The main building is designed inside as an old west town at a train stop. To the right is a large picnic area designed to resemble a train depot platform and extra restrooms designed to look like train cars.
Between the two is this area resembling an arroyo. With the plaza roof, this water runoff is designed to channel rain water into underground storage tanks, for rest stop use.
Inside the main building informative displays took us out of the present into a bustling frontier town. Alongside a display of a cattle trail drive chuck wagon were these interesting tidbits.
Are you brave enough to try these recipes?
Since today (Tues) was out last day here at Palo Duro RV Park, we stayed home and rested for our trip tomorrow.
Next stop--Tucumcari.
