Good Driving

Our decision to bypass Wichita Falls and drive on to Verona last night was a good one.  We managed to avoid all of the bad storms that were forecast that area.  Our 190 mile route today took us northwest along US 287 through Amarillo where we took US 27 south to our rv park.  We traveled under gray skies (no sun glare) with a 20 mph wind mostly blowing us along.

The road went straight for a while past flat green fields,

ran around some curves and  up some hills,

and through villages and towns of varying sizes.

The railroad paralleled the road for most of the way.  We past more than one train full of coal.

The further we went the browner the grass grew on the prairies.

The traffic was light and there was no construction until we hit Amarillo, but the drive still wasn't bad.

Our home for the next week is Palo Duro RV Park in the town of Canyon.  From our base here we will be exploring Palo Duro Canyon and the area around it by foot (hiking) and motorcycle.

What shall we do tomorrow?  Hike?  Ride the bike?  Geocache?

Louise and Duane

P.S.  After we were set up Duane said that his ears popped.  He checked the elevation of Amarillo, and found that we had gradually risen 3000 feet above Verona!
