Livin' It Up!

We celebrated Duane's 73rd birthday today by meeting son Jeremy, daughter-in-law Jennifer, and grandkids Luke and Allie at King's Pizza.

The restaurant's design is 50's Diner, but this fire engine pedal car monkey is up to date in his mask.

After enjoying our pizza, we drove to the house to pick up the mail and to check out the Sabine River and the pond.

Two days ago, before the rain, the river was 8-10 feet lower, clear and low enough to wade across.

Between the 6+inches of rain and the rising river, even the over-sized spillway couldn't stop the pond from ending up in sad shape.  The usually beautiful green clear water was so muddy that it looked like a mud hole with a few inches of water on top.  It had actually overflowed the overflow and flooded the dock.  Those kayaks on the left used to be on the bank.

The river washed away large swaths of bank.  Those rocks used to be

up here.

That grass-topped chunk used to be up top too.

More of our visit next time.
