Out the door and out of the Saddle Mountain (AZ) RV Park, the Eagle took us down south through the desert on AZ85. The road is not interesting to ride, since it is pretty much straight and flat all of the way,
but the scenery is interesting.
People out here do things in a big way: raise chickens (below), beef (not pictured),
and crops,
detain prisoners,
make power
in more ways than one,
and search for minerals and metals.
That hill is made of mine tailings (leftover dirt and rocks), and surrounds the pit mine.
We saw evidence of the recent torrential rains provided by tropical storm Rosa:
mud on the road from recent flooding
standing water,
bright green desert plants, (especially the ocotillo which puts on green leaves only when it gets enough rain),
and a faint tinge of green where there’s usually brown.
The mountains were constantly changing too: low and rounded and covered with saguaro
to high, rugged, and mostly bare, sometimes near the road and sometimes much farther away.
