White Mountains ride

A day full of natural drama!  We rode through sun and cloud, ups and downs, trees and water from St. Johnsbury, VT to the White Mountain National Forest of New Hampshire.  The White Mountains are where people go to play.  There are several areas chock full of tourist attractions.  Our short term goal for the day was the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway.  On the way to that we started on our long term goal of a ride around/through the mountains.  As you scroll down the pix, watch the ever-changing sky and the shadow play on the mountains.

Map of our travels to the White Mountains

Winooski River, which meanders along SR2 all the way from Burlington.

The bridge connecting Vermont and New Hampshire.

Our goal--tramway on the left, ski slopes on the right.

We love views of folded mountains

Closer to our goal.  Notice the name on the sign.  There are numerous tongue-twister names around here.

The slopes appear as if they end in the lake!

We have arrived!  The top of the tram is not in view.

We kept our coats and chaps on.  The temp was about 20 degrees F. colder on top.  At about 4000 feet at the top we were in and above the clouds. Notice the shadow people (reflection of the car interior)

Ski slopes waiting for snow

From the top of the tram on a clear day parts of New York, Vermont, Canada and New Hampshire are visible.  From there we took a short hike up to an observation tower for this view of the White Mountains.

The two trams balance each other.  This one was on the way up. Check us out on Facebook for video of the downhill trip.

Everybody wave!

Back on the road we were stopped at a light.  Click on the pic to see what wind does to long beards.

Eating lunch in Lincoln we had a view of one of several area attractions.

A bunch of seals?  Nope, just enjoying Lower Seneca Falls which looks just like a water park.  Even this was not free!  There was a park attendant sitting in the parking lot.

Riding through Conway we had to stop at the Harley Davidson shop.  As we pulled out we saw the longest straight street that we had seen in a loooong time!

Those dramatic clouds and shadowy mountains I mentioned.

This one reminded me of Arches National Park.

You have to be told????

More drama but this time over an open field

Share the road!

From here we retraced our route to home.
Today  we took one more trip in Vermont.  We  toured a Cabot cheese factory where they make Cheddar cheeses.  We learned that sharp cheddar is lactose free.  Who knew?  We bought some tasty sharp cheddar and a pair of cheese socks.  We also  toured the Goodrich's Maple Farm to see the modern way to  make maple syrup and to find some dark syrup.  Moving day is on Friday.

Next stop--near Bangor Maine!  Check us out.

No! I am not doing that tram. I will send Paul.

What a ride. Beautiful views! Wish you two would have to stop for a moose. That would have been cool. Enjoy the ride.
