Last Tour in TN

For our last little tour of TN we stayed close to home.  We took the bike to Norris Dam to visit the Lenoir Museum.  As with some other museums we have visited,  this museum was built to house someone's stuff.  The Lenoirs  went around the county collecting ordinary everyday things that people used over the years.  They saw that these items depicted a passing way of life and wanted to safe them so future generations would know and appreciate the way the county was pioneered and settled.  There were a lot of implements, tools, clothes, etc, but also a large collection of letters, newspaper articles and ads, and the like.  Very interesting.

This is a three foot tall music box.

Included in the compound was a short but very nice walking trail,

and a working grist mill, not working now because of lack of water in the creek.  The upper floor of the mill featured a small but nice gift shop.

Also on the grounds was a threshing barn.  The Oak log slice I thought interesting for its historical value.  It stood on end and was about 8 ' in diameter.  Also in the barn were a collection of threshing implements--thresher, separater, grain cutter, straw cutter, a treadmill for horse or oxen to walk while turning the wheel that ran the thresher, a hollowed out tree trunk for packing meat in salt for the winter.

With out work and touring done in TN. it was time to head south.  The first leg of our journey took us to Elko, GA.  Our only cause of concern was one tire on the trailer didn't register on our sensor system and the other tires needed some air.  However, we found no fueling station with air.  We made our trip without incident, low tires and all.  Below is the Atlanta skyline.  Next blog--There's stuff to do in Elko???

Nuf for now,

Louise and Duane

That music box is lovely!

Glad you are headed for warmer weather. It is really cold here in Ohio. We are out of here very soon....hopefully!
